Premios Óscar 2022: Así se elige la Mejor Película | Oscar Awards 2022

El próximo 27 de marzo se celebra la 94va entrega de los Premios Óscar. Por si no lo sabías, aquí te contamos cuál es el proceso para elegir a los nominados y ganadores.

Primero, ¿cómo es que una película llega a ser nominada?

Las películas que compiten deben cumplir ciertas reglas, las principales son:

Que su duración sea de más de 40 minutos.
Que se haya estrenado en algún cine o plataforma de streaming. (El estreno en streaming es una regla que apenas se agregó en 2020).

La Academia de Hollywood tiene cerca de 9,000 miembros, de los cuales 8,500 son votantes en activo, aproximadamente. Así que varias semanas antes de anunciar a los nominados, los miembros reciben una boleta de votación.

Cada especialista vota por sus colegas, es decir, actores por actores, vestuaristas por vestuaristas, músicos por músicos, directores por directores, etc.

PERO, en el caso de Mejor Película, todos votan, sin importar si son productores, actores o maquillistas.

Para que una producción sea nominada a Mejor Película debe tener al menos 769 votos… y de ahí salen las 10 nominadas.

¿Cómo se elige a la ganadora?

Una vez que se tienen las 10 nominadas, todos los miembros reciben otra vez las papeletas, y se hacen varias rondas de eliminación.

Los votantes escriben en su papeleta la lista de películas en el orden de su preferencia. La última película de la lista se elimina y el proceso se repite entre los títulos restantes hasta obtener 1 resultado.

¿Por qué varias rondas?

Si una película consigue la mayoría absoluta de votos, entonces automáticamente es la ganadora. Pero eso no suele ocurrir entre 8,500 votantes.

Es complejo, pero se trata de ser más justos.

The 94th Oscar Awards will be held on March 27 this year. In case you didn't know, this is how the nominees and winners are chosen.

First, how does a movie get nominated?

The competing films must comply with certain rules. The main ones are:

-It has to be longer than 40 minutes.

-Has been released in a movie theater or streaming platform. (The streaming premiere is a rule recently added in 2020).

The Hollywood Academy has about 9,000 members, of which approximately 8,500 are active voters. So, several weeks before the nominees are announced, members receive a ballot to vote.

Each specialist votes for their colleagues. For example, actors would vote for other actors, costume designers for costume designers, musicians for musicians, directors for directors, etc.

BUT, in the case of Best Picture, everyone votes, regardless of whether they are producers, designers, actors, makeup artists, and so on.

For a film to be nominated for Best Picture, it must have at least 769 votes... and that's where the 10 nominees come from.

How is the winner chosen?

Once there are 10 nominees, all members receive their ballots again, and several rounds of elimination take place.

Voters write the list of movies on their ballot in the order of their preference. The last film on the list is eliminated, and the process is repeated with the remaining titles until 1 result is obtained.

So, why multiple rounds? If a film gets the absolute majority of votes, then it is automatically the winner. But that doesn't usually happen among 8,500 voters.
