Colibríes: los mensajeros de américa / Hummingbirds: America’s messengers

¿Sabías qué los colibríes son unos auténticos americanos? Además de ser conocidos por ser los vertebrados más pequeños del mundo, estas aves habitan únicamente en nuestro continente. Los encontramos desde Tierra del Fuego en Argentina hasta el sur de Alaska.

Los científicos han observado alrededor de 340 especies de colibríes. En México hay 58, de las cuales una gran variedad cruza por la región montañosa de Texas durante su migración. En Austin podemos ver 9 especies.

Durante los tiempos más fríos del año, los colibríes emigran hasta 500 millas (unos 800 km) y son capaces de recorrer grandes distancias cada día. Si bien no tienen una temporada de hibernación, lo harán para conservar energía y continuar sobreviviendo.

Así que si ves un colibrí cerca de tu casa, ayúdalo en su viaje. Mucha gente pone comederos de aves en sus jardines, donde los colibríes vienen a recolectar néctar, polen y algunos insectos que les ayudan a prosperar. Al mismo tiempo, te dará mucha alegría tener este tipo de aves cerca de ti, pues se dice que son mensajeros del amor.

Es verdad, la leyenda maya dice que los dioses designaron a los colibríes la tarea de llevar los deseos y pensamientos de un lado a otro. Así que si un colibrí cruza en tu camino es porque alguien en la lejanía te está mandando buenos deseos o está pensando en ti de una forma muy linda.

Pero ojo, si un colibrí vuela sobre tu cabeza es porque está leyendo tus deseos y pensamientos hermosos para llevarlos a esa persona especial.

Increíble, ¿verdad? Incluso Octavio Paz le escribió un poema, está escrito de una forma especial para leerse con movimiento y de diversas formas, igual al aleteo del colibrí:

Unbelievable, right? Even Ocatvio Paz wrote a poem for him. It's written in a way to be read with movement and different ways, just like the flutter of the hummingbird.
